Moms on Mondays - Tiffany from Harlow Jade Design

This week on Moms on Mondays I am excited to feature Tiffany from Harlow Jade Design.  She is a lovely mama with the cutest family who makes the most beautiful clothes.  She sent Lemon the cutest pieces from her Fall collection - a dress, pants and romper, and we adore them all.  Such comfy, flowy fabrics, Lemon loves wearing them!  She also has a boys' line too, make sure you check it out!  Read more about her business and family below and then, go shop!

What is the name of your shop and how can we find you?

The name of my shop is Harlow Jade Design and you can find us on Instagram too!

Tell us about what you make/sell in your shop.

We make clothing for free spirited little ones. My favorite pieces would have to be our bell bottoms and our new boys runner shorts.

How/why did you start making these products and open this shop?

Harlow Jade Design started shortly after my daughter Harlow Jade was born. I could not handle the idea of leaving my beautiful baby for twelve hours a day, so I decided to leave my job and stay home with her. I wanted to still contribute to our household income and thought an online business might be the solution. For years I had wanted to start my own business, but now the timing seemed perfect. With the support of my husband I decided to go for it. The biggest lesson I hope to teach my babies is to follow their dreams and believe in themselves. I can only truly teach them this if I follow my dreams and move through the fear of failure.

I started making girls bell bottoms and tees and listed them on Etsy. I slowly grew a following and have some amazing customers I am so grateful for. We now have several items including our HJ boys line and our Fall line is the best yet.

What is your background (college/career/etc.)?

I went to FIDM in Los Angeles for Fashion merchandising. After college I went on to work for a few amazing brands including Billabong and RVCA. I fell in love with designing kids clothing at Billabong, where I was given the opportunity to design their girls' line Bille Girls.

Tell us a little bit about your family.

I have been truly blessed with an amazing family. I am married to an awesome husband that is so supportive of all my crazy ideas and helps ground me. We have two sweet babies. Harlow is sixteen months old and is a real firecracker, and Waylon is four months old and as sweet as they come. We live in Southern California and love the beach, woods and new adventures.

Did you ever think you'd be doing this?  What did you think you'd be doing instead?

I always knew I would one day have my own business, but I wasn’t quite sure what kind of business. I do not believe in coincidences and think that all of my previous experiences set me up to have this amazing business I have now.

Does anyone help you with your shop?

My husband Ian is my right hand man. {My husband's name is Ian too!}  He is a graphic designer and does everything art/ design related, including our tee graphics, art prints, photo editing etc. He is also my sounding board for everything.  We have an amazing shipping director, Karen, that helps get orders out and fills in with lots of different tasks. She is such a pleasure to work with and we are so happy she is part of the Harlow Jade family.

How do you find time to run your shop and create products?

With two little babes under two the only way I can get any work done is having help a few days a week. We are so lucky I was able to convince my aunt to watch our little ones. She helped raised my brother and I, and is such a kind/ fun person to be around. Harlow and Waylon adore her, just like my brother and I did, and still do. Most of the workload gets done on the days when we have help with the kids. I do work on social media and tying up odds and ends while the kids nap or after bed time.

What do you love about this businesses?

I love that it gives me the ability to stay home with my babies and that I can choose exactly how I spend my day. On most mornings you can find us at the beach or the park. This is such a luxury I would never have if I worked for a corporate company. I also love the design process - I love sourcing fabric, coming up with pattern ideas and seeing the product come to life.

What is the most challenging part of this business?

The most challenging part of this business is time management. Although I have help a few days a week. Those days seem to fly by and I still have a mile long "to do" list. I am working on outsourcing more tasks to others so I can focus on the things I do best.

Where do you see your shop in the future?

I see Harlow Jade Design one day being a full lifestyle brand with everything your little babe needs, including bedding, furniture, art, toys, clothing etc. We would love to one day have a flagship store where we can tell our brand's story. I would also love to find a way to help underprivileged children believe in their dreams and help make them happen.

Tell us your favorite product or your most favorite thing you've created?

My favorite product is our Bell Bottom pants. I think it is such a fun piece to see on your little one.

Do you have any advice for future mom-entrepreneurs?

Go for it! Whatever your heart keeps telling you to do or create you should. Believe in yourself and push past all your fears and doubts. You will never know how great you could be until you give it your all.

What are some of YOUR favorite shops/products, besides your own?

I love so many shops its hard to choose! I seriously am obsessed with children’s clothing. I love special little vintage finds and shops such as Rylee and Cru and Children of the Tribe

Thanks Tiffany, I loved reading about your family and your shop!
