Poses, Pictures & Pranayama - YTT Weeks 5-6

February 17th, 19th-20th & 24th:

These past two weeks have been so busy, I've forgotten to blog about them!  We learned 8 poses, got to practice them on each other and then learned about Pranayama (breath), Savasana and are going to be writing an opening and closing for an actual yoga class.  We have also been working on teaching Sun Salutations together, each saying a line as we go around the room, and are called on randomly.  It's starting to get really fun (and the time flies!), but also to be more work because I have to start studying and memorizing what we've learned (which I don't have time for!).

Practicing the poses, learning how to walk someone through them and finding out the benefits of them is really cool.  I thought I would attach the flash cards I've been making, for each pose we learn, here so that you could benefit as well, learning how to correctly get in and out of each pose.  Download if you'd like!

The first four poses we learned and practiced (last week) were:  Tadasana (Mountain Pose), Trikonasana (Triangle Pose), Utthita Parsvakonasana (Side Angle Pose) and Virabhadrasana II (Warrior II pose).  The flash cards for them are here.

The next four poses that we learned and practiced last weekend were:  Virabhadrasana I (Warrior I), Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle), Parivrtta Parsvakonasna (Revolved Side Angle) and Utkatasana (Chair pose).  Here are the flash cards for these as well.

I've also made a study guide for teaching Sun Salutations (complete with stick figures), attached here (text) and here (with pictures).  A great flow for the morning to get you energized and feeling good before starting your day!

We met early last Saturday to snap some pictures for Desert Song's website/marketing, and Ian and Lemon came along to shoot some video.  I was worn out after but had to stay until 3pm while they went off to have fun, it was tough and I was so thankful she was napping when I got home so I could nap too!  Ian made an awesome video and we got some cool pics, check them out (I'm not in the first 4, I took the pics!):

My little helper got upset when I would join the group to do yoga, so I stayed with her most of the time.  But then when it was time to go, she was fine!  Go figure.

Last night we talked about breath, pranayama, and practiced adjusting each other in savasana (corpose pose).  It was relaxing but man was I tired when I left!  I still didn't go to bed until 11pm and today I am a walking zombie.  I am so happy that I don't have training this weekend and am looking forward to spending it with friends and my beautiful girl!
