Moms on Mondays - Kylie & Liz from Wee Rascals

 photo IMG_2712_zpsaff387e1.jpg

Today I am featuring TWO moms (my first duo!) who run a shop called Wee Rascals.  They have the cutest shirts with famous figures on them and their tag line is "Hip t-shirts featuring historical heroes."  How cute is that (and they have a adult shirts too!)?  These mamas are two friends who started this company because one of them just had an idea; I love that they are working together to make this happen for them and their families.  Check out their post and then go shop!

They sent Lemon a Susan B. Anthony shirt and we love it!

How/why did you start making these products and open this shop?

Kylie:  I started Wee Rascals out of frustration with all the cartoon characters that I see all over kids clothing!  I wanted real faces of real people who had done amazing, heroic things for our world! These heroes changes the world!  We feel like kids, all of them, have the same greatness in them as Abe Lincoln & Susan B. Anthony and we wanted to see it reinvented  in a really cool way!  I couldn't find what I wanted so I thought I would try it out myself.  Johnny Appleseed was my first stab at it!

Liz:  The idea was all Kylie’s!  She had a vision that I believed in strongly and jumped aboard to make it happen.

How long have you been in business?

Kylie:  We just celebrated our 1st year and it really snuck up on us!

What is your background?

Liz:  I have a pretty traditional background - earned an undergraduate degree and then worked in the corporate world for a while before staying home to raise children.

Tell us a little bit about your family.

Kylie:  My family life is great! I have 2 rowdy boys (ages 2 & 5), 3 if you count my husband :) & 2 rescue dogs!  We are active but love our weekends at home when we get them!  Yoga & running early in the morning keep me sane and hot tea makes me happy..along with a mani/pedi from time to time! Still learning about the work/life balance?! I don't have it down but I'm learning.  There are days I feel like I have balance and other days its no where in site.

Liz:  I have 2 children with my husband, Nick.  Delia is 5.5 years old (don’t leave out the half, she gets feisty about it!) and Hudson is 2.5 years old.  We love our weekends together typically exploring the amazing city we call home, Austin!  We love finding new things to do, especially outside, and new restaurants.  I am a better person when I can squeeze in some time for myself which is usually spent exercising (running, yoga.)

How does this company help your family?

Liz:  The company helps me have an outlet outside of my family.  Something I can pour creative energy into and feel like I have a purpose outside of raising children and being a homemaker.  I LOVE staying home and wouldn't change it for the world, but having a business also brings me a lot of personal satisfaction.

Did you ever think you'd be doing this?

Kylie:  I don't think I ever felt like I would be doing this, but childhood friends say it totally makes sense.  I think they knew me better than I knew myself.  :)  I am exactly where I need to be and it is really fun!
Does anyone help you with your shop?

Kylie:  I am so blessed that my best friend, Liz wanted to come aboard this roller coaster with me!  I grateful for her everyday!  We both are very aware that it probably sounds like a disaster to other people but it works for us.  I am always running things by my husband and sister for their opinions also.  But on a daily basis, it's definitely Liz..a business is really like having a baby...another one :)

Liz:  It’s just Kylie and I…for now!  We do collaborate with a local artist on some of our designs.

How do you find time to run your shop and create products?

Kylie:  Challenging parts of this business lately would be - We had some set backs for our Spring tees which had us behind and releasing later than we wanted.  Growth forces you into spaces & sometimes scrambling to get ready for so it! Growth is good, but challenging for sure.

Liz:  A lot of late nights!  Working during naps and school time.  And, more than I’d like to admit the T.V.!

What do you love about this businesses?

Liz:  I love connecting with our customers through social media and email.  We've have some of the most amazing supporters.  I also love working with my best friend!

Where do you see your shop in the future?

Liz:  I hope we can continue the success we’ve had.  And, continue to add more heroes to our line.

Tell us your favorite product or your most favorite thing you've created?

Liz:  I don’t have a real favorite but if I had to choose one it would be the Amelia Earhart design.  She was one of the first heroes we released we started working with a local artist and I love how she came out!

Kylie:  The best parts of this business - Chatting with customers . . . they really become friends & without them Wee Rascals just couldn't be! Learning, learning SO much about things that I had no idea about before starting Wee Rascals.  I really feel like we are successful already because we have gained so much knowledge!  All of it really - we love pretty much all aspects!

What are some of YOUR favorite shops/products, besides your own?

Liz:  There are so many amazing shops!  Some of my favorites are Gunner and Lux and Camp Wolf.

Thanks ladies, this was so fun!!  :)
